Dev Talk: Development Update October 2026
It's been over a month since Dragonfire launched, and our latest Dev Talk looks back at the update and ahead to what's next for Albion. Co-Creative Director Michael Schwahn discusses player…
Looking Back at Dragonfire
Since Dragonfire launched, players have been exploring the Ancient Lands, battling Dragons, and taking on the Dragon Sanctuary, where Regaro and his party achieved the world's first kill of Azaryon, the Fire Dragon. Congratulations to them!
Alongside these achievements, the team has been listening closely to player feedback. One key takeaway is that players want to visit the Ancient Lands more frequently, which has already led to several adjustments:
Small Portals in Yellow Zones are now permanently available, offering more frequent access to the Ancient Lands with slightly reduced rewards
Small Portals in Lethal Zones remain unchanged, preserving their high-risk, high-reward gameplay
A new Item Freeze mechanic protects items brought into these areas
Only loot acquired inside can be lost
Beyond the Ancient Lands, the team has also been making adjustments to other Dragonfire features:
The Dragon Sanctuary continues to receive adjustments to its difficulty and rewards:
Difficulty is still being evaluated to keep the dungeon challenging but achievable
Drake Egg drop rates in higher-tier dungeons are another focus, aiming to better reward groups that take on tougher challenges
Open-World Dragons in the Outlands now grant significantly more loot and Might
What's Next for Albion?
Dragonfire was one of Albion's largest development projects in recent years, and the team has only recently been able to shift its focus to new projects. However, there are already some exciting plans on the horizon.
The 1v1 Arena Returns
Following positive feedback from its earlier run, the 1v1 Arena will return:
It will be available for the duration of the next Guild Season
Players can once again test builds and compete in one-on-one PvP
A New Direction for Seasons
Looking further ahead, the next major content update, planned for early next year, will introduce a substantial overhaul of seasons and challenges.
Currently, Guild Seasons primarily matter to players involved in competitive guild gameplay
Other progression systems – Adventurer’s Challenge, Conqueror’s Challenge, Faction Warfare campaign – operate alongside them with different rules, timelines, and rewards
This makes it difficult for players to understand what's happening in Albion each season and how they can take part
The goal is to bring these systems into a clearer, more unified seasonal framework:
Guild competition will remain important, but won't be a requirement for participation
Existing challenges will be integrated into a more cohesive seasonal progression system, making it easier to understand what's happening and track progress
Meaningful objectives should be available throughout the season for players who enjoy different activities across Albion
But the overhaul goes beyond reorganizing existing systems. The team also wants to make individual seasons more engaging, taking inspiration from the Keeper Uprising:
Future seasons could introduce new activities, world changes, or special challenges, giving each season its own identity
Not every season will feature a major event, but the aim is to give players new things to discover and work toward
More Meaningful Rewards
Seasonal rewards are another important part of the overhaul. Since players have different goals, the team is exploring ways to make progression more flexible:
Players could have more choice over which rewards they pursue first, rather than following a strictly linear progression path
The goal is to make progression feel worthwhile throughout the entire season, with meaningful rewards for different types of players
Ultimately, these changes aim to make seasons more inclusive, engaging, and rewarding for everyone playing Albion.
We're hard at work on this overhaul, along with other new features and content planned for Albion. There's lots more to share, so stay tuned for future Dev Talks. In the meantime, head over to the video and let us know what you think in the comments!
